Roadblock Title:

What We Learned Building Payment Orchestration for Lenders

Time:

Wednesday - 1:00 PM (Tower C)

Abstract:

Everyone talks about payment orchestration for merchants, but what happens when your payment trigger isn’t a checkout button but a batch file from a Loan Management System?

We built a payment orchestration platform for lenders and learned that almost none of the merchant playbook applies. In this session, we’ll cover the key differences between merchant and lender payment orchestration, push vs. pull in the context of loan disbursement and collections, and how to build a routing engine based on cost, speed, availability, and daily limits — including fallback logic when a processor is down.

We’ll share lessons learned building a multi-rail layer supporting ACH, wires, and real-time payments (FedNow and TCH), and anonymized results from a real production implementation.

Learning objectives:

  • Learn how lending payment orchestration differs from merchant payment routing
  • Understand key architectural challenges in multi-rail, multi-tenant financial systems
  • Understand how push and pull payment flows require different retry logic, failure handling, and architectural safeguards in lending systems
